Howdy! Thanks for all the interest and questions keep them coming! One of the most recurring is around How to and When to dose horses. Let’s start with the How to dose your tincture oil products.
The first thing to understand is that CBD Products should be clearly marked with the level of milligrams that are contained within the bottle. This is an important distinction. If a bottle of CBD is labeled as 500mg that is the amount in the entire bottle, not the amount per dose. If a bottle is not clearly marked with the amount of milligrams stop and look for a more reputable and honest provider. Secondly, check the size of the bottle you are using. The standard size for bottles are a 1oz size, but some providers will change bottle sizing to create the perception of a greater concentration of their formula or give the customer a sense of greater value (Bigger bottle, better value right?). Both of these areas can cause and do cause consumer confusion so let’s simplify the whole scenario. (This scenario is just for tincture bottles, pellet supplements are all different based on scoop and bag size. Look for the packaging to provide you MG per use information).
Starting with Bottle size and 1ML uses
.5 oz bottles have 15 1 ML uses
1 oz bottles (standard Size) have 30 1 ML uses
2 oz bottles have 60 1 ML uses (Any Sizes above 2 oz add 30 1 ML uses per oz)
Now let’s look at the actual dosage amount per ML per bottle if the bottle contains 500mg of CBD.
.5oz bottle: 500mg divided by 15 equals 33.3 mg of CBD per 1 ML
1 oz bottle (standard size): 500mg divided by 30 equals 16.6mg of CBD per 1 ML
2 oz bottle: 500mg divided by 60 equals 8.3mg of CBD per 1 ML
Is a bigger bottle better?
.5 oz bottle | 500mg | 33.3mg per 1ML dose |
1 oz bottle *industry standard | 500mg | 16.6mg per dose |
2 oz bottle | 500mg | 8.3mg per dose |
The trick that can be played on consumers is thinking a bigger bottle with a high milligram percentage is actually a great value. In reality the bigger the bottle, in many cases means, the more diluted the product you are receiving. This results in potentially needing to take a larger dose to achieve the results you may be looking for. Larger dosing is not bad, but often it can lead to an inefficient use of the product.
